Within Angel you may have to deal with a variety of files and file formats. Depending on which files you deal with, you may have to download and install extra "plug-ins" for your web browser.

Common file types may include (icons may vary slightly from those shown)

	PDF - these are Adobe Acrobat files. These file names end in .pdf for example: student_guide.pdf
	Text files - these are plain ol' text without any formatting. They're the easiest for everyone to deal with, but the lack of formatting kind of holds them back. These file names end in .txt for example: myReport.txt
	RTF files - these are text files with formatting - including text formatting, paragraph formatting, tables and even images. These are a great format to use as virtually all word processors can read them. This makes them ideal fromat for sharing documents. These file names end in .rtf for example: assignment5.rtf
	DOC files - these are files from Microsoft Word; typically Word version 2003. These file names end in .doc for example: resume.doc
	DOCX - these are files from Microsoft Word version 2007. These file names end in .docx. Be careful using these files as not everyone has the newer version of Word. Usually, a newer version of a program can Save As an older version - which might be a good idea in this case. for example: takeHomeEssay.docx
	XLS and XLSX - are files from Excel, versions 2003 and 2007. Again, the newer version may be difficult for some people to use. for example: budget.xls for example: budget.xlsx
	PPT and PPTX - are files from PowerPoint, version 2003 and 2007. Again, the newer version may be difficult for some people to use. for example: mid-termPresentation.ppt for example: mid-termPresentation.pptx
	PPS - are files from PowerPoint. These should be "self-running" slide shows, assuming you have the correct software on your computer. for example: chapter20.pps
	JPG, GIF and PNG - these are different types of images. There are more types than these, but these are the most common. for example: myDog.jpg for example: myCat.gif for example: myPony.png
	HTM and HTML - these are web pages. for example: default.htm for example: default.html

Please note that most programs will allow you to save your document in many different formats. Often your teachers will request a particular format, so be sure to follow their instructions.

To change the format of a file, first finish the file and save it as you normally would.
Next, File-->Save As and a dialogBox should pop up.
Look near this dialogBox and you should see a drop-down box labeled Save as type
Use the drop-down box (you can scroll and often see a lot of options in this box) and select the format you want.
Make sure you know where the file is being saved, and click Save.
