Citing and Documenting Resources 
This module will give you an overview of the most technical feature of academic research writing:  documentation style.  Documentation styles vary by discipline, but one of the most frequently used in undergraduate programs, especially the social sciences, is the American Psychological Association, or APA Style.   This week’s module will familiarize you with the function and the established standards of this style.
By the conclusion of this learning module, the user will be able to complete the following module-level learning objectives:
 
  1. Apply the function of standardized formatting styles in undergraduate writing, especially, that of the American Psychological Association (APA) within the context of advanced research writing. 
  2. Locate, identify, and apply correct APA citation formats for bibliographic reference. 
  3. Locate, identify and apply corresponding correct APA in-text citation formats.

These module level objectives will contribute to meeting the following course-level objectives: 

  • Apply compositional principles and syntactical, lexical and stylistic conventions of American English to academic writing

APA Style Defined: 

APA (American Psychological Association) style is most frequently used within the social sciences, in order to cite various sources. This APA Citation Guide, revised according to the 6th edition of the APA manual, provides the general format for in-text citations and the reference page. (American Psychological Association, 2016)

5. Take the APA Post Quiz. Take the APA post-quiz to assess the new knowledge that you have learned about APA

 

After a successful score of 70% or above on the post-quiz, you can continue to module 2.
