This module will review the serious issue of plagiarism and how to avoid it.  In academic culture, you must clearly identify the origins and source of all ideas and words borrowed from others.  Understanding how plagiarism is often “unintentional,”   especially in our digital world of “cut and paste,” should further reinforce the lessons in APA Style of Week 1 and help you appropriately credit all your sources.
By the conclusion of this learning module, the user will be able to complete the following module-level learning objectives:

  1. Recognize the characteristics of both intentional and unintentional plagiarism.
  2. Apply formal citation and documentation techniques when summarizing or quoting sources.
  3. Distinguish between original sources and borrowed languages and ideas when writing.

These module level objectives will contribute to meeting the following course-level objectives:

  • Communicate research findings and original ideas in clear, logical, academic writing.
  • Write and revise collaboratively for an academic audience.
