How This Course Works

Course Structure

Course Modality

This course is a 9- week synchronous online course with an expectation that we will meet as a class one day per week.

Class meeting times are always 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM and we will meet in Building 21 room 106 on Mondays and Wednesdays.

If at anytime we need to meet online, the link for our class Zoom Room will be published in the Module for the week.

Weekly Modules

  • The course content is organized and delivered in Weekly Modules. You will find the Module link in the Course Navigation Menu on the left.
  • There are due dates for assignments and activities in each module.
  • For best results, navigate this course through the modules and pay attention to each item in each module.

Required Materials

To be successful in this course, you will need...

Engagement and Participation Expectations

In order to participate actively in this course, you will...

  • Read and respond to Announcements.
  • Read and respond to Canvas Inbox messages.
  • Share your thoughts and experiences in online Discussion forums.
  • Connect with and respond to your classmates in Discussion forums.
  • Attend and participate in the weekly class sessions.

Pace and Routines

Being successful in an online course requires pacing yourself and making a commitment to "show up" in class or in our online space regularly. To keep us on pace for the term, I will do my best to stick to a routine, too.

Examples of recurring activities (instructors should customize this with routines in this course):

  • Assignments are always due by 11:59 pm on the due date. You are encouraged to submit assignments before the due date/time.
  • Discussion Forums take place weekly. You're encouraged to post your reply by Thursday before our Zoom class session.
  • You need to respond to at least one classmate by the Friday due date/time.
  • I grade assignments and give feedback on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • I’m available by appointment if assistance is need.  Contact through Canvas email to arrange.

Late Work Policy

  • My late work policy is...
  • No Late Work: Unless a student provides documentation by 2-4 days during week of the missed project and informs the instructor prior to or week of the incident (sickness, travel, hospitalization, schedule change, etc.). All Canvas projects due on date listed. If an emergency occurs, 3-extra days ONLY may be given to submit project(s) (with documentation from the student to include dates) If missed projects due to active duty military/reservist, documentation is required/additional time given. No redo on projects, unless per instructor.

Grades and Feedback

  • I do my best to grade and give feedback on assignments promptly.
  • In Canvas, I give feedback by rubrics, points, submission comments, in-line comments on the doc viewer.
  • You can view your grades and feedback by clicking on the Grades section on the left of this page, on rubrics, submission comments, etc..
  • In general, most assignments are graded within 1 week of the due date/time.
  • If you have questions about your performance on a specific assignment, please contact me directly.

Habits for Success in an Online Course

Create a weekly schedule and stick to it.

  • This online hybrid class is not completely self-paced. You are expected to meet deadlines regularly by thoroughly reading and engaging with all content in the modules, checking your To Do list on your Dashboard, viewing the Calendar, reading announcements, and checking your overall course grade.
  • Being an online learner takes a lot of self-discipline. It is very easy to fall behind in online classes if you don't make a routine and hold yourself responsible to it.

When possible, complete assignments before the due date and take advantage of extra practice opportunities.

  • The upside to online learning is that you have a little more flexibility and freedom to move at your own speed.
  • You can turn in work early or take your time to get extra practice on a concept on your own using the materials in the modules.
  • On the other hand, you have to be incredibly diligent about working at a consistent pace so that you don't become overwhelmed by letting work pile up.

Don't wait to connect with student support resources.

  • Clover Park offers a wide variety of student support resources.
