My name is Suzanne Cooke and I will be the instructor for the governmental accounting class that you have registered for. I have an Associate's Degree in Accounting from Clover Park Technical College and a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Texas A&M University. I have been in the finance industry 17 years and have been teaching for over 13 years at Clover Park Technical College.

The best way to contact me is by e-mail through the canvas course. I usually check my email during the day and should get back to you right away.   Weekends I will check them periodically, so please be patient.

This course is self study and does not require group discussions or group activities. We will be looking at an overview of the theory behind the way an entity approaches their financials along with the financial reporting requirements applicable to state and local government, the federal government, and not-for-profit organizations.  The required text is available in the campus bookstore or can be purchased online using the parent book ISBN see syllabus for book information.  If you need help with a concept or topic, let me know!

At the end of each chapter, you will have extra materials to help you better understand the concepts.  Every Module will be assigned  a Chapter that will have a power point presentation to provide an overview of the primary topics discussed and the solutions to the questions and exercises found at the end of each chapter.  For the majority of the chapters, I have included a video lecture from Rutgers University about the topic.  They are using an older edition of the book but the content is still relevant and you may find it useful.  To begin your class, choose the Modules tab and choose your chapter.

Since this is an ONLINE class, the course schedule found in the Syllabus is an example to show you how you could plan your time to be successful in this class.  It follows a live classroom lecture schedule.  Your tests and terms assignment will be open for the entire quarter, however, the system shows due dates to keep you on track to complete this course. You will not be penalized if you go past the recommended due date.  However, If you do not materially participate throughout the quarter, you may be dropped for non participation.  See syllabus for rules about participation.  To receive credit for this course, all course work must be submitted by Monday Midnight, December 12th.
