Case Scenario Health Care Unit Setting
The text describes support services as services provided in the health care setting that assist the staff in providing patient care or patient assistance. Ancillary services can be defined as services that are used to support the diagnosis and treatment of a patient. Supplies and equipment are often needed to deliver care to the patient. Information about the patient’s past medical treatments and test are used by the health care team to make decisions regarding the patient’s care. It takes a combination of services, supplies and information to provide patient care. It also takes a resourceful health care team member, such as the health unit coordinator, to coordinate the many requests that result in quality patient care.
Below describes a scenario that will help you in answering the questions after reading this:
Delia Ramos has worked as a health unit Coordinator for over five years at a university-based health system. Delia is a nationally certified HUC. When asked about her profession, Delia explains that she must know the function of every department in the system because she is the person responsible for coordinating the request of the physicians, staff, patients, and visitors. Delia thinks about an average workday and guesses that she coordinates requests from at least 20 different departments.
For each of the situations listed below, where should Delia direct her request and refer someone for the correct answer.
Below are examples of some Delia's responsibilities, your job is to put yourself in Delia place and using your critical thinking skills ,think about who might contact or where and what would you do if:
