Your ES 123 Final requires the Lockdown Browser. You may need to look up answers to reinforce your recall of this foundation information prior to taking the exam. Second, third, and fourth quarters of your Master Esthetician program require you to use your theoretical knowledge and apply it to every salon service you perform, whether in practice services on each other, friends and family, or the public in the Insparations campus clinic. Once you are practicing your profession in our industry you will be the standard bearer for colleagues or your employer, if they did not have your training. Our profession requires practitioners to use EPA-Approved disinfectants, to understand what is disposable and what may be decontaminated and reused, how and why contraindications are established to prevent the spread of diseases in a salon setting. It is useful to you to make flashcards for specifics of the Minimum Safety and Sanitation Standards that regulate your profession and to visit the disciplinary site from time to time to remind yourselves that not every practitioner takes state and federal oversight seriously. There are lapses in compliance resulting in financial penalties and we should never be counted in those numbers.
You should be able to explain levels of decontamination and principles of disease prevention, including Standard Precautions. You should be able to help your employer understand hazards of using disinfectants that by law must be used. By the time you graduate from your program you will have nearly 1000 additional hours of education and practice using decontamination protocols and it begins with the theory learned in first quarter. Relax as you take this exam and over the break reread this chapter. Jen will expect you to understand the importance of the procedures she will demonstrate to keep each other safe from microorganisms.
