COURSE STRUCTURE

Class will meet face to face each week in BLDG 10 RM 205 from 6-9.  There will be additional web enhanced discussions.

HOW TO SUCCEED IN THIS CLASS

Students are expected to be active participants in class as individuals  and in groups. During class discussions, it is expected that students listen to others respectfully and manage their emotions appropriately.  Using cell phones (except emergencies) or lap tops as well as doing other class work during class will result in a loss of participation points. Arriving late and leaving class early may affect the attendance and participation grade portion of the course.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Develop knowledge and skills to ensure good health, nutrition, and safety of children in group care and education programs.  Recognize the signs of abuse and neglect, responsibilities for mandated reporting, and available community resources.

ASSESSMENT OF OBJECTIVES

Students will give oral responses appropriate to the material in class as a component of the grade.

Students will complete work demonstrating newly acquired skills and understanding of the materials presented in class.

Students will complete homework assignments which reflect research of topics for discussion by the designated deadline.

Students will demonstrate professional conversation and interaction among their peers when working in a small or large group.

Students will receive or loose credit for attendance.

Students must achieve at least 70% of possible points to pass the course.

GRADING POLICY

Assignments received after the due/submission date will be subjected to a reduction in points.

Expectations for adult learners in the Early Care and Education Program:

  • Treat yourself and others with respect
  • Arrive on time and stay for the entire class period.
  • Make arrangements with the instructor to collect any missed handouts or lecture information.
  • Be aware of assignment due dates on CANVAS.
  • Be a cooperative and productive member of group work.
  • Be a respectful member of class by turning off cell phones and minimizing other distractions.
  • Arrange child care for children as they are not permitted to attend classes.
  • Turn in homework by the due date for full credit.  Homework should be typed and of college quality.
  • Maintain a "C" grade or better.
