COURSE DESCRIPTION

Increases student knowledge of various counseling theories, theorists, and techniques from both a historical and contemporary viewpoint. Students will explore these theories' practical application and appropriate uses in the human services system.

  • The text is required. Although the course requires a textbook, CPTC recognizes and acknowledges the challenges of textbooks' prices. To assist adult learners with these challenges, CPTC promotes using "Open Education Resources (OERs)." Open Education resources are learning materials other than the assigned course textbooks. (See Class Sessions: Below)
  • OERs are not only professional; OERs are the industry standard.

GRADING SCALE

Grades are assigned as follows:

100-94% A                                                       76-74% C

93-90% A-                                                        73-70% C-

89-87% B+                                                       69-67% D+

86-84% B                                                          66-64% D

83-80% B-                                                        63-60% D-

79-77% C+                                                       59% & below   F

Students receiving a C- or below must repeat the class to satisfy the Human Service program requirements for graduation.

Note: The instructor does not award pluses/Minuses (+/-) for grades. Instead of pluses/minuses, the instructor grades up for assignments 

As you are all adult students, we expect you to each be responsible for keeping track of your grades.  Assignments are graded and handed back to students as soon as possible.  Use the attached grade sheet to calculate your grade.

Any student who receives a C- or below after midterms will be notified by the Human Services instructors and asked to create a corrective action plan.
