Land Acknowledgment

Clover Park Technical College acknowledges that our community resides on the ancestral lands of the First Peoples. Our campus, situated in Lakewood, Washington, is located on the traditional lands of the Puyallup, Nisqually, and Coast Salish peoples. We invite you to join us in honoring the Indigenous Tribes of Washington by acknowledging the ancestral lands; Indigenous communities; elders; and the past, present, and future generations of the Native Peoples across our state.

Labor Acknowledgment

We also acknowledge that our nation and our institutions have been built on and benefited from the labor of marginalized communities. This includes the forced labor of enslaved Black individuals whose immense contributions have been foundational, yet have often gone unrecognized. We recognize the entwined histories of Indigenous peoples who were forcibly removed from their lands and the Black people who were forcibly brought here. We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of the African diaspora and we celebrate the contributions, talents, and aspirations of Black communities.

Furthermore, we recognize the labor of immigrant and refugee communities, which includes individuals who have come here both voluntarily and involuntarily, trafficked or undocumented. Their labor and cultural contributions are invaluable to the fabric of our society. We honor and appreciate their significant contributions to our state and nation.

We understand that acknowledgments such as this are only the beginning and that they must be paired with genuine relationships and a lasting commitment to change. Consequently, Clover Park Technical College is dedicated to cultivating our collective knowledge and actions in order to foster genuine connections with our communities of color. We strive to bring about substantive change within our institution and the wider community.
