Overview
CPTC's structure/organization is outlined below as are the types of employees and types of faculty.

Board of Trustees
The CPTC Board of Trustees Links to an external site. hires and delegates operating authority to the College President. The Board consists of five members, appointed by the Governor to five-year terms, who live the the College's district. One board member shall be from business and one shall be from labor. From their members, the Board elects a Chair and Vice-Chair to serve one-year terms.

Employee Classifications at CPTC
- Non-exempt Staff (includes specialists, technicians, associates, administrative assistants, program assistants, office assistants, and child care center teachers - these employees are overtime eligible)
- Maintenance and Operations (includes mechanics, landscapers, security officers, electricians - these employees are overtime eligible)
- Exempt Staff (includes assistant directors, managers, coordinators, analysts - these employees are not eligible for overtime and are below the director level)
- Administrators (includes the president, vice-presidents, deans, associate deans, and directors - these employees manage people or departments and are not overtime eligible)
- Faculty (Tenure, Tenure Track, Full-Time Adjunct, Part-Time Adjuncts - see the chart below for clarification on these types of faculty)
- Work Study Students - students who receive work-study as part of their financial aid package and perform a variety of functions on campus. Their financial award is limited and they may only work 19 hours per week.
Types of Faculty at CPTC
Full-Time (Permanent) Faculty: Tenured, Continuous Status, Tenure Track, Continuous Status Track Faculty
- Workload and Duties: 37.5 hours/week
- Benefits: Health/dental/vision insurance, sick leave, and retirement. Contact payroll and benefits for more information.
- Professional Development: All faculty members are expected to continually pursue activities that update and add to their professional skills and add value to the college, to fully support the college in accomplishing its missions and goals. These faculty are required to attend 20 hours of professional development per year. All faculty members must be lifelong learners.
- Increments: There are three ways for these faculty to increment.
1) Attend 2 in-service days, 1 all faculty and staff day, and 1 outcomes and assessment day to be awarded with one increment of $1260. See the CBA for details.
2) Earn 96 hours of Professional Development Units (beyond your initial certification requirement) in the designated categories to earn one additional increment of $1260. See the CBA for details.
3) Earn an increment through educational advancement. One increment of $1260 will be granted for an Associate or Bachelor's degree and 2 increments equaling $2520 will be awarded for a Master's or Doctoral degree. See the CBA for details.

- Committee Requirements: All tenured and Continuous Status faculty are required to serve on two standing or multi-year committees during each academic year. Tenure track and Continuous Status Track faculty are not required to serve on committees.
*Note- academic faculty do not need to meet the skills standard requirement and do not need to obtain an initial teaching certification per WAC 131-16-070 through 131-16-094.
Adjunct Faculty
Full-Time Adjuncts
- Contracts: Full-Time adjuncts are contracted for a set number of credits for 3 or 4 quarters.
- Workload and Duties: 37.5 hours/week
- Benefits: Health/dental/vision, sick leave, and retirement. Contact payroll and benefits for more information.
- Professional Development: All faculty members are expected to continually pursue activities that update and add to their professional skills and add value to the college, to fully support the college in accomplishing its missions and goals. All faculty members must be lifelong learners.
- Increments: There is one way for these faculty to increment. (Attend 2 in-service days, 1 all faculty and staff day, and 1 outcomes and assessment day to be awarded with one increment of $1260. See the CBA for details).

- Committee Requirements: Active participation on college committees.

Part-Time Adjuncts and Senior Part-Time Adjuncts
- Contracts: Part-Time adjuncts are contracted per class each quarter.
- Workload and Duties: Workload/hours are based on the number of credits taught. It includes curriculum development, lesson planning, delivery of instruction, grading, attendance/grade reporting, office hours...
- Benefits: For health/dental/vision, Part-Time adjuncts are eligible at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of employment in which they are anticipated to work, or have actually worked, half-time or more. "Half-time" means one-half of the full-time academic workload as determined by each institution, except that half-time for community and technical college faculty employees is governed by RCW 28B.50.489 Links to an external site..
- Professional Development: All faculty members are expected to continually pursue activities that update and add to their professional skills and add value to the college, to fully support the college in accomplishing its missions and goals. All faculty members must be lifelong learners.
- Some in-services and meetings will be paid by your Dean. NOT all professional development opportunities will be paid.
- Increments: There is one way for these faculty to increment. (Complete the adjunct portfolio process to be paid at the senior adjunct credit level. See the CBA for details).
- Committee Requirements: Active participation on college committees is encouraged and can be used as part of your adjunct portfolio.
*There is a $60,000 pool of professional development funding available for all faculty to use for professional development. Apply through the VPI's office.
